As we grow up and go through life we start to realize that there is no easy answer. There isn’t an easy answer for most questions. There aren’t many shortcuts that can substitute the quality of hard work either. When it comes to fighting acne these statements ring true as well. If we want to live a life without the physical and emotional pain of acne then we must do the things every day that will help us to prevent the next breakout while treating the current breakout we are experiencing.
The first step in our proactive battle with acne is to clean the skin. Keeping the skin clean will open the door for other counter measures that we can employ that will help to speed up the healing process. A good facial cleanser will do just that, it will help us to maintain clean skin so that we can then begin to treat the acne. The facial cleanser should contain benzoyl peroxide. This chemical actually kills the bacteria that lives in our pores and feeds off of the dead skin cells.
The next step is to get a facial scrub once we have clean skin to work with it is time to scrub off any excess dead skin cells. It makes since to keep as much of the dead skin cells off of our face once we understand that bacteria use that as food. When we use the facial cleanser it can kill the current bacteria but we don’t want more moving in replacing the dead ones so it is very beneficial to keep as much debris out of the pores and off of the face as possible.
The third and final step that we will discuss is having a good lotion on hand. After we have cleansed and scrubbed our face the skin may start to become dry and irritated. To prevent the body’s natural response to create more oil to help coat the skin, which would only lead to more acne in our case, we need to use a medicated lotion. Regular lotions will have a tendency to clog up the pores so it is crucial to find one that is non-acnegenic; this basically means it won’t cause acne. A lotion that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide is the best bet and they will help to keep dead skin cells off of the face all day long.
Fighting acne has no shortcuts there isn’t an easy answer, there aren’t miracle cures; there is only persistent work that will help. Even an acne laser treatment isn’t a onetime procedure, it takes multiple sessions and then it is up to the patient to make sure they care for their skin properly. Understanding what each product does and how it helps is vitally important in the fight against acne. Just like the termite chips away at the giant oak tree before it falls, so must we chip at our acne problems with daily cleansing.
