The Christmas List Basics

in Christmas

Of course, it is always best to get started on the Christmas list in the heat of summer.  If for no other reason, we can almost feel a little cooler as we dream of winter.  All that said, it is time to start thinking about the gift list and the big dinner on Christmas day.  Once we have our gift list names, it is time to start deciding on the gift itself.  Oh, my!  We have months to think of those things.

Instead, while the weather is good maybe we should start sorting the Christmas decorations.  During the warm days of summer and fall we can pull out the lights that go on the tree and begin sorting out the knots — all the while wondering why we didn’t pack them up a little better when we took them down and knowing that we will make the same mess again this year.  It’s also a good time to sort out the ornaments.  Throw out the broken ones.  There is absolutely no need to save them.  They don’t heal or regenerate the missing piece from one season to another.

Perhaps, we should also consider replacing the Christmas tree stand.  Undoubtedly, that is the most stressful of everything related to decorating the tree.  That dang stand didn’t hold the tree upright last year or the year before.  And, what makes us think it will this year, with that one leg bent a little too far out.  The whole idea of a tripod stand is to balance the tree in an upright position.  Just let the idea go.  It will work no better this year that in years past.

If there is one thing that should head the Christmas list decoration needs it is a new Christmas tree stand.  Why not go for one that is cast iron?  It is heavy enough to hold a large tree.  The base is sturdy enough not to tip over.  And, it will last for years and years.  In fact, move the tree stand to the top of the list this year!
